Lola ya Bonobo

Lola ya Bonobo, the world’s only bonobo sanctuary, offers a unique opportunity to encounter these remarkable primates—humanity’s closest relatives, sharing 98.7% of our DNA—in a semi-wild environment. Located within 30 hectares of lush primary forest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the sanctuary is home to 52 rescued bonobos. Translating to “Paradise for Bonobos,” it plays a vital role in protecting this critically endangered species, whose wild population may be as low as 5,000. Visitors support efforts to secure the future of these extraordinary primates
